I saw this ad for a company hiring.

Qualifications include:
(1) natural & resourceful technical abilities
(2) good understanding of Computer Hardware: Routers, Switches, Hubs
(3) troubleshooting skills
(4) experience setting up a Broadband Home/Office Network
(5) working knowledge of Windows Networking
(6) MAC & Unix OS experience a plus
(7) commitment to provide exceptional customer service

My friend said to take an A PLUS COURSE to learn this and i should be fine.

The job you are posting info about looks more like it requires a Network Plus certification.

The guy who will get this job is going to be an MCSE and CCNA with at least 5 years of experience.

It depends on the employer and how much they are willing to pay. I've seen job postings like this for a Computer Doctor type position where a guy sets up Internet access in homes or small businesses (notice the "setting up Broadband" requirement). Certainly someone with an MCSE and CCNA with 5 years experience wouldn't be interested in such a position.

Jobs that require a CCNA or MCSE are far more specific as to what types of tasks are done and the protocols used.

I agree. Based on this description, it's nowhere near MCSE material. Any network hack with 2 years network experience should be good & qualified(with maybe the exception of the Unix\Mac experience).

Exactly, they should not be but the reality is that they are dime a dozen and there is always going to be someone on the market who is desperate enough to take any job.

I have seen too many MCSE's without working knowledge of Windows networking and no troubleshooting skills. It is extremely rare, I would estimate this at 0.1% of IT population, to have this expertise and not to have their MCSE cert. It seems that anyone with a half a brain is an MCSE and if he is not then he must be too dumb (or too bright but, again, this is an exception) for this.

I am going for the A+ cert.

How long should that take?
